“We cannot return to a place we’ve never left, but we can learn to see it differently. And that, too, is a way of coming back.”
Since 1976, we have woven a story written with patience, vision, and deep respect for the land. Finca Espiells embodies the Penedès that inspires us—a place of reference, identity, and character.
A commitment to quality, innovation, and loyalty to tradition has shaped the soul of every wine born from this estate.
Wine is landscape, and our landscape is the Penedès. For four generations, we have chosen to preserve and protect a piece of the Penedès. A succession of gentle Mediterranean hills, forests of holm oak, pine, and scrub, and streams that carve through and shape the land—a mosaic whose balance lies in its diversity.
Finca Espiells embodies that original Penedès which inspires us and which we safeguard for those who will continue our work. Here, every corner tells the story of the Penedès, which is also our own.
The estate, nestled between the Mediterranean Sea, the cosmopolitan metropolis of Barcelona, and the imposing Montserrat mountain range that shields it from northern winds, enjoys privileged conditions for vine cultivation: clay-limestone soils, an elevation between 180 and 245 meters above sea level, and a Mediterranean microclimate.
It is a landscape of extraordinary beauty, ideal for growing traditional grape varieties such as Xarel·lo, Garnacha Blanca, and Malvasía de Sitges, among others.
Finca Espiells is located at the foot of the unmistakable and iconic Montserrat mountain, between the pre-coastal and coastal mountain ranges, to the north of Vilafranca del Penedès and south of the city of Barcelona.
Its 183 hectares preserve the 2,700 years of winemaking history in the Penedès, a long tale that speaks of farmers who instinctively knew that cultivation and nature must go hand in hand to endure for millennia.
The estate includes the farmhouses of Casa Vella, Can Torres, and Can Rius. This unique setting makes Finca Espiells a privileged place where we cultivate the vines used to produce all our wines.
Espiells is the largest of the estate’s properties, covering 183 hectares, of which 162 are vineyards, located in one of the most renowned winemaking regions of the Alt Penedès, at the foot of Montserrat. Old vines, rich in history, dominate this beautiful area of Sant Sadurní d’Anoia. These vines are planted in poor, well-drained clay-limestone soils, between 180 and 245 meters above sea level.
With privileged conditions and a Mediterranean microclimate, the estate is sheltered from the cold northern winds by the Montserrat mountain. It is a landscape of extraordinary beauty, ideal for cultivating traditional grape varieties.
Finca Espiells is a highly diverse ecosystem. Of its 183 hectares, 162 are covered by vineyards, while the rest consist of forests, small ravines, streams, paths, and farmhouses. This integration of the vineyard into nature fosters biological diversity, which distinguishes and benefits our vines.
At first glance, maintaining this landscape may not seem like a decision that favors productivity, but the diversity of Finca Espiells makes us unique, as it provides protection and complexity to the vines, which holds immeasurable value.
